@eris@yourwalls.today I mean the fucking AppView hoopla just is going to make it unfortunately too easy for Bluesky PBLLC to decide to blacklist people and certain instances from using the main app/frontend (literally is anything but a shell client).

@eris@yourwalls.today @seanking@woem.men I feel the thing with Bluskey in general is that while ATProto fans can boast about how much better the decentralized protocol would work than ActivityPub, in the real world, Bluskey's community grew just like the other centralized platforms. It was pitched to ex-Twitter users as a Twitter successor, not as a decentralized protocol, and it only allowed the flagship server, bsky.social, to prosper until fairly recently. So, while technically you could participate in AT without Bluskey, there's almost no AT outside Bluskey, and Bluskey itself is ran by corporate morons. Meanwhile, Fedi certainly could have become just as awful as Bluskey if Gargron and Syuilo only sought user growth from being an easy alternative. Instead, this platform grew from word-of-mouth, where most of the people who joined and stayed specifically cared about vibing in the fully-independent communities that it offers. Even while this meant the platform was far less familiar to most tech-illiterate people (which is part of an even greater societal issue), small servers were able to thrive while earlier protocols like e-mail inevitably centralized into the hands of a few uncaring mega-corporations.
