@kaia@brotka.st can't you set a shortcut with some function key to do the same action? (How) are you typing umlauts btw?

there are enough keys for äüß etc. I just switch the layout. I wanted to learn international layout for way too long

@kaia @nightingale assuming US International layout: ä = right alt + q not that hard to remember imo, they’re all right next to the non-umlaut vowel keys
ü = right alt + y
ö = right alt + p
ß = right alt + s

Québecois and not a dumb ugly basic stupid annoying awful white bitch ^_^literally what's the difference between those two
Work out.
Becoming local character.
My life.
All of it.
Here's what I'm gonna do:
Get two 10 liter buckets
Take buckets with me
Walk to local pond
Fill buckets
Walk around pond
Empty buckets
Refill buckets
Walk around pond
Repeat untill too tired
If anybody ask wtf am i doing I'm gonna say shit like "missing sauna" or "ämpäriäijä"
...
Arent you worried about raising the water level on the other side of the pond?
Tilting the pond.
Pond tilter.
...
That's also a great answer for wtf am i doing.
Although I was planning on emptying and refilling the buckets in the same spot on every round. But that only makes the anwer better.
question for the USB experts (boosts okay)
do the USB specification and/or operating system APIs in practice define any sequencing requirements between requests on the control endpoint vs requests on a bulk endpoint?
specifically, i am thinking of the requirement "For endpoints using data toggle, regardless of whether an endpoint has the Halt feature set, a ClearFeature(ENDPOINT_HALT) request always results in the data toggle being reinitialized to DATA0."
if i have a BULK IN endpoint which is *not* halted, and a program running on the host platform tries to simultaneously read from the BULK IN endpoint as well as issuing a ClearFeature(ENDPOINT_HALT), can these requests race each other? what are the permissible outcomes of this situation?

Is this too much thermal paste?

@gigalomaniac counting early access as release date completely defeats the point of early access of getting public feedback and funding on an unfinished game though 🤔

saying it's a 2022 game makes it sound like it was made alongside doom eternal lol

Ubuntu 25.10's Move To Rust Coreutils Is Causing Major Breakage For Some Executables
I noticed a number of benchmarks failing to run on Ubuntu 25.10 this week with reported checksum errors on the files... I quickly realized it's due to the recent Rust Coreutils transition for Ubuntu 25.10 causing some major breakage for those relying on Makeself archives...

pronouncing "/etc" as "etsy"
...
@izzy@social.shadowkat.net that's how I've always done it . who doesn't. what. do you just spell it out as an initialism? no it's an acronym!
...
though admittedly I never actually pronounce it
...
@izzy@social.shadowkat.net ????? what . what do you mean you pronounce the FHS folder as "et cetera"??????????? it's "editable text configuration"
...
...
@aetios@sns.minovsky.space @izzy@social.shadowkat.net apparently it DID originate as such. I'm wrong????
RE: https://social.shadowkat.net/objects/c91c524d-fd89-4ec5-9b9e-67e70704fb73
...
@aetios@sns.minovsky.space @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @sodiboo@gaysex.cloud im still gonna call it Etsy or et cetera but no way in hell “editable text configuration” I know no one that calls it that and it’s wierd
...
@ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @izzy@social.shadowkat.net yeah no I pronounce it etsy too don't worry . nobody calls it "editable text configuration" when reading a path; that's hella mouthful. but I just incorrectly pointed out that /etc definitely doesn't mean "et cetera" and that it shouldn't be pronounced like that . and that "etsy" is basically the only good way to pronounce it. besides "e tee see" but that's also too many syllables
...
...
...
I do feel my tongue touch the top of my mouth twice rather than once in the case of "etsy" though you might be onto something, but also it doesn't feel like a syllable.
I'm not a linguist

...
@izzy@social.shadowkat.net @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social I don't think syllables are normally counted by how many times you tongue touches something. that's counting consonants (almost kinda sorta, in this case that's how many constant clusters there are). I'm not sure how to explain counting syllables actually. but usually it's more correlated to the vowels
...
@sodiboo @aetios @izzy @ErisNixie over here we count syllables = count of vowels
so aeiou is 5 syllables
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social @lina@tech.lgbt something something silent vowels throw a wrench into everything being that simple to count, aswell as y sometimes being one but only sometimes and only in some languages but in these cases yes
/etc /etc
...
@memdmp@catgirl.center @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social in pronunciation there is no such thing as a silent vowel. that is simply not a vowel. pronunciation and syllable count, in English, have nothing to do with the spelling and it's only loosely correlated. when we say counting vowels for syllables, we do mean vowels in the linguistic sense. that is, noises. if a letter is "silent", then that letter is by definition not a vowel in this pronunciation of this word.
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social
in pronounciation there is no such thing as a silent vowelJapanese,,,
...
...
...
@Transbian_Arsonists@catwithaclari.net @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social yeah? but we're talking about pronunciation/phoentics . not Japanese orthography. English also has silent letters
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social the vowels still have an affect on pronounciation and are still part of syllable structure
...
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social sure, desu is usually pronounced des and the syllables are de-s(u)
...
@aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social kiku and kuku are distinct even though both are pronounced k-ku
...
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social dont think so, cause then that would sound like kikku or kukku
...
@Transbian_Arsonists@catwithaclari.net @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social I don't understand what pronunciation you're trying to convey, then. "kikku" looks like it has a vowel in the second position .? so that doesn't feel like a good transcription if there's a glottal stop?
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social kikku is きっく with っ representing that the next constanant is geminated which in the case of k usually manifests as a glottal stop
...
@Transbian_Arsonists@catwithaclari.net @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social right so it can manifest as a glottal stop, which is just simply Not a Vowel . again, "silent letters" are just a property of the writing system. which... isn't what I was talking about. but you're right that it's still a full syllable without any vowels. which..? yeah? counting syllables is not the same as counting vowels and I will reiterate that I don't really know how to explain the former.
...
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social the point is
in pronounciation there is no such thing as silent vowelsbut japanese has silent vowels hat still affect pronounciation, and they're not an artifact of the writing system since they can be pronounced they're just sometimes "devoiced"
...
@aetios@sns.minovsky.space @lina@tech.lgbt @sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @memdmp@catgirl.center @izzy@social.shadowkat.net @ErisNixie@neurodiverse.social i think i got confused and forgot my point halfway throught he conversation
