well technically it should be fine if it's running when you copy, databases should survive/recover from yoinking the power plug. also aren't postgres backups in that weird text-ish format that's just the sql commands to recreate the table (because of encoding differences between versions and whatnot)?

it's a bootloader, its task is to load my OS without me having to manually reconfigure it every time i upgrade the kernel, if it does that fine why should I care about anything else

What are you worried about? Support should be fine and if something doesn't support it, conversion to PNG or JPEG should be simple. Quality should be fine considering you're comparing it with JPEG.

@kaia pleroma-fe converts every image above a certain size to webp and i have had no complaints because people don't even notice, every browser has support for for minimum ~3 years.
there's probably some kind of of "google wouldn't add apng or jpeg xl bcs adding new image formats to browsers is bad but webp is ok to do". couple that with everyone using windows which iirc didn't do thumbnails for webp files forever (maybe still doesn't, but i might be confusing with something else), macos or ios also probably had weird support. some apps also treat webp files differently, eg, telegram which automatically treats all webps as stickers.
just watch it in the background and pay full attention when you sense it isn't a filler episode. that's what a friend did in highschool
