language that has types and it's very strict about them but only in places that make it more painful. eg function parameters can only be words, you always have to manually cast to anything else in the body. to make things worse, stuff like "string" or "float" can have different representations (eg, is it by-copy or by-reference) depending on how the original variable was allocated and it's actually all automatic but you need to specify the exact way it's created when casting (so you need to do this whenever casting function arguments from words). impossible to refactor anything

    @eris @lizzie it's like taxes in amerikkka, you have to get the types right, and the compiler knows exactly how you are wrong to produce an error But it has to hear it from you
