hmmm yeah, even if the library retains a ton of state in the background, you would still be wasting CPU time doing the API calls for drawing (even if the library knows they can be skipped). The difference here is like spinlocking vs process actually blocking on a mutex

@eris tbh even if the library keep a "cache" under the hood, it sill needs to compare new state with old explicitly, so it's not just spinlocking but also semi-expensive checks
