                                                and also it isn't nested scopes at all. if a parent process spawns a child process and then afterwards changes some variable that the child process doesn't modify, it doesn't get propagated. parent process can also choose to create a child process with a custom environment instead of copying its own. "global immutable" is because a process is unable to modify another process's environment, parent or child, thus while you might have a global variable that defines your terminal color scheme or whatever, it isn't possible for programs to modify it in other processes. And I don't see your point of bringing bringing procfs into this
