Saying "I liked this post"/"Cheers"/"Great to see"/"True" or whatever replacement of favoriting is as useless as favoriting if you do it all the time, yes, also filtering out notifications from favorites is an easy thing while filtering out replies seems counterintuitive for a social network
Favoriting or emoji reacting is way cleaner than your suggestion of responding with a single emoji or a useless sentence. Favoriting also does help with federation, if I interact with your post in any way (including favoriting), instances of people who follow me will end up getting your post in their federated timeline (it's not mandatory but it's how the effects end up working), but unlike with boosts or replies, it's not cluttering up their home/friends timeline.
