      @dushman What would be the utility in an IRC network when XMPP already exists and we already have XMPP? It's a superior protocol and its federated, so people on different XMPP services can communicate with one another or be apart of different communities vs. having to maintain separate accounts on different servers/networks. @nyanide @eris

        @adiz @dushman @nyanide @eris not having to make an account is a big one for me. I host XMPP for myself but clients suck, and i don't blame them. Due to the nature of XEP's, all clients have to be coded such that the cross product of all optional XEP's being present or not do something sensible.

        Also, chris seems to want it for the hell of it!

          @anotherposter I understand the grievances against XMPP clients, but in my experience the issues are never as major as people make them out to be. Everyone acts like the protocol is neigh unusable due to the state of available clients, but, actually, I use XMPP daily (Dino on desktop + Conversations on Android) and basically never experience any issues whatsoever. And, from my experience, the state of clients for IRC on mobile, at least, is substantially worse. 🤷‍♂️ @dushman @nyanide @eris

            @adiz @dushman @nyanide @eris Yeah, it's not bad. I use cheogram on android and have only one issue (i need to report it and try to get it fixed). For mobile, the only irc client i like is weechat-android, which requires you to have weechat running on a pc/vps.
