@eris@p.enes.lv Linux does VPN over a seperate (software) device (TUN or TAP devices). So your real network device always have the connection to your router (or else you could not connect to your VPN at all). It then creates a software network via the tunnel device and assigns the VPN IP to that device. Depending on your routing options, you configure where all your traffic goes through (public IP vs VPN IP). So if/when you resolve your local IP you have to setup a priority list, which IP gets displayed. If you always resolve to your physical devices IP, you will always get your router assigned IP. So you either have to fetch the public ip (through services lik ipify) - but thats the exit nodes IP then - or setup a priority list locally, which devices IP should be fetched first.

@eris@p.enes.lv What @kaia@brotka.st is doing (I assume): Fetching the IP address from the local network devices. If you have linux, it is the IP you see when running That's what I meant, either you query the exit node (public) IP using sa webservice like
Not from the public IP the web sees.ip addr
, Windows uses ipconfig
. It is the IP assigned to the different network devices. Even with Mullvad, it cannot change the IP address of your network devices, it just adds one on top.
